Review

If you're a THIRDS fan, then you probably have an idea of what Dexter Daley's bachelor party could possibly contain. If you're guesses are shenanigans, hijinx, and mayhem ... well, you know your Dex pretty well! In Gummy Bears and Grenades, Charlie Cochet has given us a bachelor party no one is liable to forget anytime soon.

All of your favorites from Destructive Delta are present and accounted for (sans Tony, but more on that in a minute). Of course there couldn't be a party for Dex without Hudson and where Hudson goes, there's Seb. My favorite though has to be seeing Zach and Austen together, well not together together, but neither would miss Dex's party and if they happen to watch one another a little too closely then so much the better. The party is pretty much what you'd expect from this group ... with a few surprises thrown in. I won't spoil anything, because really, as with most books in the series, it's best to just read and experience all the craziness for yourself.

I will say this though, there were a few parts that shied away from the over the top hoopla of the bachelor party. My favorite was the quiet time Sloane and Tony spent together while the others were getting their party on. Tony is always such a softie when it comes to his boys and this brief glimpse is no different. On top of that, Sloane has to be mindful to keep his and Dex's involvement in TIN from Tony which causes no small amount of guilt. I just really appreciated Charlie's acknowledgement of the pitfalls Dex and Sloane face in their upcoming endeavor. Things aren't liable to be easy for them, a fact which both guys readily admit. The other part was the super sexy striptease Sloane privately gives Dex. It was *fans self* ... and not a side of Sloane we see very often. Plus there's a special uninvited guest to the party and that was all kinds of fantastic.

All that said, this was a fun, angst-free little romp. I will say I'm pretty much over the bumbling, goofiness of Dex (as much as I adore him) and really can't wait for Sloane and Dex with the help of their team and friends to get back to chasing down bad guys. I miss the action and the suspense and the kickass fierceness of the first books. Hopefully once the wedding passes and Dex and Sloane get involved with their missions for TIN, we can see them at all their badass best.

  1. Thanks for the good review, Erin. One Sep read was The Last Grand Master by Andrew Q Gordon, an exciting start to what's becoming a really good series.
