‘Quite an awesome buffet for such a dreadful wedding, right?’
White nodded while turning around to face the stranger. She licked her fingers clean as if to demonstrate how accurate his comment was. The man behind her was around her age with shiny, black eyes and skin the exact opposite of hers. White’s skin was paler than snowflakes and the young man’s skin darker than ebony.
‘I know,’ White spoke, taken by the beauty of the man staring at her.
He smiled. ‘I don’t think I’ve seen you around before,’ he said.
‘You haven’t,’ White rushed to reply. ‘I come from the West.’
‘What is your name?’ the man asked.
‘I am…Prince White of the Western Lands,’ she replied, her heart sinking for not being able to introduce herself as who she really was.
‘I have heard of you,’ the man said.
‘All good, I hope,’ White said and the man nodded. ‘And what would your name be?’
The man’s eyes lit up and he extended his arm towards White, ‘Prince Oliver of the Southern Territories. Pleasure to meet you,’ he announced.
White shook it. ‘And I just called your brother’s wedding dreadful.’
‘Technically, I did first, so it doesn’t count,’ Oliver smiled, and White couldn’t help herself, smiling back. ‘Wonderful,’ he added, bringing Snow back to reality.
‘I’ve got to go now, Prince Oliver. It was great to meet you,’ White stuttered and curtsied hurriedly to Oliver.
She'd made so many mistakes. Talking to a boy, smiling, curtsying. Princes don’t do those things. She ran out to recompose herself. She managed to calm down, but all she could think about from that point onwards was Oliver. He had made such an impression on her.
